Former Ole Miss wide receiver Deion Smith is getting another opportunity to continue his college football career, this time at Allen University.
Allen officially announced Smith’s signing on July 14, adding the former LSU and Ole Miss receiver to its program for the 2026 season.
For Ole Miss fans, Smith’s name will always be connected to one of the more interesting transfer additions the Rebels made in recent years. After beginning his career at LSU, Smith eventually landed at Holmes Community College, where he rebuilt his stock and became the No. 1 JUCO prospect in the country.

Ole Miss took a chance on Smith because the talent was obvious. He had SEC experience, good size, natural receiving ability and the kind of upside that made him one of the most talked-about junior college prospects in America.
The expectation was that Smith could become another weapon in the Rebels’ offense if everything came together.
It never really happened.
Eligibility issues complicated his path to the field, and his time at Ole Miss never developed into the breakout chapter many expected when he joined the program. In a receiver room filled with talent and competition, Smith was unable to carve out the kind of role his recruiting résumé suggested was possible.
Now he is getting another opportunity.
Allen’s announcement gives Smith a fresh start and a chance to remind people why he was once viewed as one of the most talented receivers in the junior college ranks.
For Allen, it is a significant addition. Smith brings experience from both LSU and Ole Miss, along with the physical tools that once made him one of the most highly sought-after players in the country.
For Ole Miss fans, it will be an interesting career to continue watching from a distance.
Smith’s time in Oxford may not have gone the way many expected, but his journey is another reminder of how quickly things can change in college football.
From LSU, to the No. 1 JUCO prospect in the country, to Ole Miss and now Allen University, Smith’s path has been anything but straightforward.
But he still has another chance to write a better ending.
