FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A walk off loss Sunday took away what might have been a momentum swing for the Ole Miss Rebels.
Arkansas pinch-hitter Christian Turner struck a game winning two run home run in the bottom of the ninth off Rebel closer Walker Hooks for a tough 5-4 loss for Ole Miss.
The Rebels fall to 32-17 and an even 12-12 in the Southeastern Conference. Ole Miss has a home series with Texas A&M next weekend in Oxford and a road finale series at Alabama.
Arkansas improved to the same record as Ole Miss, 32-17 and 12-12.
Ole Miss has grabbed a 4-3 lead in the 8th off a solo home run by Judd Utermark.
Hooks had a 1-2-3 eighth inning. But in the ninth gave up a single to Nolan Souza. Turner then ended the game with his homer.
The loss spoiled a good effort by Reb starter Taylor Rabe. He went five innings and left with a 3-2 lead. At a big double play to end a Hog threat in the sixth was induced by JP Robertson.
Ole Miss erased a 1-0 deficit with a 3-run homer by Owen Piano in the second for a 3-1 lead.
Ole Miss could not extend the lead and the Hogs made a gradual comeback getting solo homers from Zack Stewart and Kuhio Aloy.
Paino led Ole Miss with two hits, three RBIs and a walk. Utermark also had two hits.
