Friday’s hero in the circle Lilly Whitten is greeted by pitching coach Nancy Evans as she comes off the field.

This game will be shown on ESPN2.

PITCHING

Ole Miss should have starters Emilee Boyer and Kyra Aycock both available, and even reliever Lilly Whitten, who turned in a great, long relief effort in Friday’s win over Boston U. We believe Boyer wasn’t used Friday until she absolutely had to be because the plan was to save her for the second round and the likely matchup with Texas Tech. So, here it is. She owns a 12-13 record and a 3.68 ERA. Boyer has anchored the Ole Miss pitching staff, especially down the stretch. She has tallied 145 strikeouts to rank ninth in the single-season record books at Ole Miss.

Texas Tech is likely to throw NiJaree Canady, who owns a 22-5 record, 1.24 earned run average and 209 strikeouts this season. If the name sounds familiar, it should. The Rebels faced her during last year’s Women’s College World Series.

SCOUTING TEXAS TECH

Led by one of the best players in the nation in NiJaree Canady, the Texas Tech Red Raiders enter the weekend seeking to build on last season’s national runner up finish. Head coach Gerry Glasco has led the Red Raiders to back-to-back 50-win campaigns and into the national title conversation.

Canady is the headline name, going 22-5 with a 1.24 ERA (146.1 IP) and 209 strikeouts, but the Texas Tech lineup is loaded with talent. UCLA transfer and two-way star Kaitlyn Terry is a sparkling 22-1 and holds a 1.30 ERA (118.1 IP) while also hitting .471 with 10 home runs and 52 RBI.

Florida transfer Mia Williams and Jackie Lis form a power punch in the Red Raiders lineup. Williams is hitting .439 with 22 home runs and 73 RBI, while Lis is hitting .453 with 17 home runs and 59 RBI. On top of that, the speedy Mihyia Davis (.434 batting average, 34 steals) and power-hitting catcher Jasmyn Burns (17 home runs and 54 RBI) make the Texas Tech lineup extremely dangerous at any time.
