Okafor did verbally commit to the Rebels on April 18 — and this wasn’t isolated reporting. Multiple outlets confirmed it at the time.
Now, terminology matters in this space.
A “flip” in recruiting is when a prospect changes course from a previously stated commitment — and that’s exactly what happened here. Verbal commitments are non-binding by nature. They aren’t contracts. They can shift at any point before pen hits paper on signing day — whether that’s driven by the prospect, the staff, or the evolution of the recruitment itself.
So whether you want to label it a “change of commitment” or call it what it is in recruiting circles — a flip — both land in the same place. The decision changed.
Bottom line: however you choose to frame it, this isn’t a roster-altering loss for the Rebels. The board, the pipeline, and the bigger picture remain intact.

Like DJ said, this will blow over; this is just a part of the landscape of recruiting these days. It’s been happening for a long time. It just really doesn’t start with the coaches; there are some of these “agents” that are at the source of this. I know of agents that put feelers out for athletes they represent that have not even expressed a desire to move on for their programs. Crazy age now! Programs all have to keep up!
