Rebels retain Ilias Karmadine for another season

Chris Beard and the Ole Miss Rebels are preparing for an essential offseason filled with retooling as they aim to bolster their roster and bounce back from a challenging season. Yet, amidst this uncertainty, there’s a bright spot: Illias Karmadine, the talented guard hailing from Marseille, France, is set to return for another year with the Rebels.

At an impressive height of 6 feet 4 inches, Karmadine made quite a mark during the 2025-26 season. He averaged 11.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game—a testament to his potential on the court. His commitment to Ole Miss was confirmed last April; however, logistical hurdles delayed his arrival in the United States until August due to clearance issues. This late start likely influenced how the coaching staff utilized him, as they leaned more towards using him as a point guard than originally intended.

Despite facing some shooting struggles—posting an overall field goal percentage of 42.1% and only hitting 29.3% from three-point range—Karmadine’s basketball IQ and ability to generate offense both with and without the ball make him an invaluable asset moving forward.

As Beard enters his fourth year in Oxford, keeping Karmadine on the roster is vital for laying down a strong foundation for future success. Last season was tough for the Rebels; they wrapped up with a record of 15-20 and faced difficulties in conference play, finishing with a disappointing 4-14 record in the Southeastern Conference.

With Karmadine’s return and strategic adjustments ahead, there’s hope that next season will bring new opportunities for growth and achievement for Ole Miss basketball. But the Rebels playing to Karmadine’s craftiness on the hardwood could be just the spark they need.
