Women’s tennis heads to Cali

Ole Miss women’s tennis continues its fall schedule this week, with the Rebels set to compete at the ITF W35 Bakersfield in Bakersfield, California, and the ITF W50 Austin in Austin, Texas, Oct. 19-25.

The Rebels enter the week following a strong showing at the ITA Southern Regional in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where Alice Battesti advanced to the singles championship match and Andrea Nova and Alice Soulie reached the doubles final.

Battesti earned a spot in the singles semifinals with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Tulane’s Campbell Ricci before defeating LSU’s Tegan Bush, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, to advance to the championship match. Nova also reached the singles quarterfinals, while the Rebels recorded six singles victories in the opening round.

In doubles, Nova and Soulie advanced to the championship match after defeating LSU’s Tegan Bush and Dora Miskovic, 8-3, before earning a 6-4, 7-5 victory over LSU’s Aya El Aouni and Nada Fouad. The duo finished as runners-up after falling 7-5, 7-5 in the final.

Ole Miss will look to carry that momentum into this week’s professional-level tournaments, which provide additional opportunities for the Rebels to gain experience against competitive fields and continue their development during the fall season.

The Rebels are scheduled to continue fall competition next week at the ITF W15 Sumter in Sumter, South Carolina, and the ITF W35 Norman in Norman, Oklahoma, Oct. 26-Nov. 1.
