Cade Townsend
The media got a chance to sit down with the Ole Miss baseball team Monday after they found out they’re headed to Lincoln, Nebraska to open the NCAA Regional against Arizona State. Out of all the interviews, Rebel flamethrower Cade Townsend stood out the most to me.
When asked about the extra time off after dropping that tough one to Missouri in the SEC Tournament, Townsend didn’t sugarcoat it. “Of course you never want to lose,” he said, “but it could’ve been a blessing in disguise.” He believes the rest did him and the other two starters a lot of good. The trio has been on a throwing program all week and even faced live hitters on Friday.
Townsend’s approach to the postseason is simple: treat it like any other start. Get his mind right and go dominate, just like he tries to do every time he toes the rubber. He also dropped a little nugget that he actually prefers pitching on the road. Something about quieting the other team’s crowd gets him going.
This writer has seen enough this season to feel pretty confident in the Rebel pitching staff. If Townsend and the rest of the Rebel staff keep doing what they’ve done all year, Ole Miss is going to be a problem for anybody they face in the postseason. I’ll take our three starters over anyone in the country.
Let’s go play some baseball.
