Ole Miss senior wide receiver, Harrison Wallace III, met with members of the media recently as the team prepares for its semi-final matchup against the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes in the Fiesta Bowl on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.CT.
Ole Miss (14-1, 7-1 SEC) defeated the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs 39-34 in the AllState Sugar Bowl to advance in the playoffs.
Wallace was asked what it meant to be just one win away from playing in a National Championship.
“Yeah, it has,” Wallace said. “It’s in the talks of our locker room. It’s something we’ve been wanting since January, since we started (preparing for the season). So, I’m just glad that we are in this position and have a chance to get it done.”
In the Sugar Bowl against the Georgia Bulldogs, Wallace had a huge game, as the number one target for quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, with nine receptions for 156 yards and a touchdown.
“It was great just going out there having fun and making plays for the team,” Wallace said. “Getting myself out there and doing everything I can for the team to help us get a win.”
The Miami Hurricanes (12-2, 6-2 ACC), come into this Fiesta Bowl game after wins over Texas A&M (10-3) in the first round of the playoffs. Miami then defeated Ohio State (24-14) in the Cotton Bowl in the second round of the College Football Playoffs.
Wallace was asked what he had seen so far on film from Miami’s defense.
“They are like one of the top three defenses in the country,” Wallace said. “They are going to bring a lot of pressure. (Miami) has two great guys coming off the d-line and then has a great back end. It’s going to be a great challenge. Looking forward to going out there and working.”
This season, the Hurricanes have a strong defense, holding their opponents to just 13.1 points per game.
Wallace and his teammates head to Glendale, Arizona, to take on the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes in the Virbo Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 8. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.CT on ESPN.
