The recruiting battle for Alvin Mosley heats up as Houston, Ole Miss and Texas secure first 3 OVs

In the world of college football recruiting, the terms “dead period,” “off-season,” and “quiet period” can be misleading. If taken at face value, they may lead you to believe that the action has slowed, especially if you’re looking for talent beyond Texas. However, the Rebels are on a mission to keep the Lone Star State rich with top-tier athletes, and they have made considerable progress in their pursuit of standout prospects like Alvin Mosley.

Standing at an impressive 6 feet 2 inches, Mosley is a true powerhouse who excels on both the football field and basketball court. Hailing from Almeta Crawford High School in Houston, he is a four-star recruit ranked as the No. 116 overall player for the class of 2027, the No. 18 wide receiver nationally, and the No. 17 prospect emerging from Texas.

This past season, Mosley showcased his electrifying skills as one of the most dynamic pass catchers in the game. His statistics tell a compelling story: he recorded 67 passing yards with one touchdown, rushed for 155 yards and six touchdowns, and accumulated an astounding 1,091 receiving yards with 23 touchdowns. Adding to his versatility, he tallied 376 punt return yards and a total of 1,653 all-purpose yards, averaging an impressive 86.8 yards per game.

Mosley is not alone in this competitive landscape; the blue-chip prospect from Houston has garnered over 30 offers from some of the nation’s top programs. As we know, visits play a pivotal role in shaping recruitment narrativesโ€”so which school will ultimately secure Mosley’s commitment? The competition is fierce between SEC and Big 12 schools, with programs like SMU, TCU, LSU, and Arizona State also keeping a close watch on him. Currently, three programs have scheduled official visits for him later this season.

Texas has been generating considerable buzz as they aim to keep this talented pass catcher close to home; Mosley is set to visit them on June 12. Meanwhile, the Rebels are not holding back in their pursuit of this dynamic hybrid athleteโ€”they will host him on June 5th. This day could be crucial for their recruitment efforts as they strive to make a strong impression alongside two other promising Houston talents: Aden Starling and Benny Easter Jr., who are also set to visit the Velvet Ditch that weekend.

While both the Rebels and Longhorns may prefer not to hear it, donโ€™t underestimate the Houston Cougars, as they pose a genuine threat to these two SEC powerhouses. Willie Fritz and his staff have been diligently working the recruiting trail and present an appealing option for local talent like Mosley, who may wish to stay close to home while having the opportunity not just for more one-on-one development but also more playing time. The Cougars will get the first visit on May 28th.

Each program brings its own unique allure into this heated battleโ€”a journey that is far from over. Especially with LSU’s Lane Kiffin and others lurking for a deep-threat wideout like Mosley, every moment counts as these teams vie for his commitment. We look forward to catching Mosley on the 7v7 scene as he strikes it up with RGIII’s program.
