Texas tops Rebels in Austin

Mackenzie Pickens rips a solo home run versus No. 2 Texas.

Ole Miss lost its fourth consecutive SEC game to start the season Friday in sunny Austin, dropping a hard-fought 3-1 decision to No. 2 Texas, as the Rebels’ brutal early-season conference schedule continues. The loss moved the Rebels to 19-9 overall and to 0-f in the league. Texas, winners for the 21st time in a row, improved to 23-1 and to 4-0 in the SEC.

All the scoring came in the first two innings. Texas plated a run in the bottom of the first off Ole Miss starter Kyra Aycock then struck for a par in the second, as the Longhorns moved ahead 3-0. The rebels’ lone run came in the top of the sixth when second baseman Mackenzie Pickens took about them only mistake Texas starter Teagan Kavan (10-0) made and deposited it over the left field wall to make the score 3-1. Kagan recorded 12 of her 21 outs via strikeout.

Aycock (8-3) settled in two toss the final four innings, holding the Longhorns at bay. She worked a complete game, allowing the three runs while scattering six hits. She walked none and struck out zero.

Ole Miss star first baseman Persy Llamas was the Rebels only multi-hit hitter, both of which were singles.

The two teams meet for game two of the series at noon CT Saturday. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network+.
