Sira Thienou announces return to Ole Miss, to help begin an important offseason

Ole Miss and head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin got sot some good news Wednesday morning with star guard Sira Thienou announcing her return to the team for the 2026-2027 season.

The news was first announced on the Ole Miss women’s basketball team instagram, headlining the return for the upcoming junior.

Thienou has been a pivotal player for Ole Miss the last two seasons, named to the SEC-All Freshman Team in the 2023-2034 season.

Thienou missed an extended period of time throughout the 2025-2026 season, and made a return during the teams appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Thienou averaged 9.3 ppg, and 5.6 rebounds per game before her injury, and her absence was noticeable. Thienou’s two-way abilities make her on of the top players in the SEC. A premier scorer and defender, Thienou provides aggressiveness on the offensive end that will be pivotal for Ole Miss next season, she also led the team in steals this past season.

After much controversy surrounding the Rebels final game of the season against Minnesota, McCuin will have to reload a roster as six senior will be leaving the program. Ole Miss finished with the no.1 transfer portal class in the country last season, and fans will expect to duplicate that finish this season.
