Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey announced today that the SEC will distribute a remarkable $1.03 billion to its 16 universities for the 2024-25 fiscal year, which concludes on August 31, 2025.

This marks an impressive increase of over $200 million from the previous year, when the conference allocated $808.4 million.

“The SEC’s annual revenue sharing allows member universities to support elite athletics programs,” Sankey stated. “Including sustained and meaningful investment in women’s and Olympic sports that enhances opportunities and strengthens resources, while advancing the academic and athletic aspirations of thousands of student-athletes.”

As college athletics undergoes significant transformation, Sankey emphasized that SEC universities are well-equipped to provide new financial benefits for student-athletes. They continue to offer a life-changing college experience, including debt-free education and comprehensive support in areas such as coaching, training, academics, healthcare, mental wellness, nutrition, life skills, and post-eligibility medical coverage.

The total distribution also accounts for $37.4 million retained by universities that participated in the 2024-25 College Football Playoff and bowl games.

On average, schools with full-year financial participation received about $72.4 million from the conference office—this figure includes bowl revenue retained by participants. The University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas joined the conference in July 2024; they received distributions related to CFP and bowl participation amounting to $2.6 million and $12.1 million, respectively.

Notably, this average of $72.4 million per school is approximately $18.6 million higher than last year’s average of $53.8 million for members fully participating throughout the year.

The total revenue shared among the 14 schools receiving a full share comes from various sources: television agreements, postseason bowl games, the College Football Playoff, the SEC Football Championship Game, the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament, and NCAA Championships.
