Rebels wrap up strong effort at Vandy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ole Miss men’s and women’s track & field won three more events and had several impressive performances to wrap up the Vanderbilt Invitational on Saturday.

The story of the day for the Rebels, though, was their presence across both the men’s and women’s 60-meter dash competitions on Saturday.

Junior Royanah Farmer – a JUCO All-American at her prior stop Coffeyville Community College – had an excellent first string of 60-meter performances as a Rebel. She had the top time in both the prelim and the semifinal, first a career-best 7.40 and then another PR of 7.35 in the semis, before bowing out prior to the final. Farmer already ranks seventh in Ole Miss history in the event, and both of her times today rank as the fastest among all competitors despite not running the final.

Freshman Myla Reed also advanced to the semifinal, running 7.73 and earning a time qualifier in her 60-meter collegiate debut, before running a PR 7.66 in the semis but missing out on the cutline for the final.

In the men’s edition, Fort Scott Community College transfer and fellow NJCAA All-American Dekell Minor had an equally superb start to his Ole Miss career in the 60. Minor was third in both the preliminary and semifinal rounds, first with a 6.74 and then a 6.72 that slots him seventh in school history just two races into his Ole Miss career. Minor also bowed out before the final, as did sophomore Wesley Todd, who ran two PRs to qualify at 6.87 in the prelim and then 6.83 in the semis.

Other notable performances on the track included a pair of third-place finishes, first with senior Joshua Knox in the men’s 400-meter dash (48.03), and then fellow senior Cassie Williamson in the women’s 800-meter (2:07.49).

Knox also ran the leadoff leg of Ole Miss’ winning 4×400-meter relay team, its second victory in a row after a superb opening win at Kentucky last week. Knox, Cade Flatt, Todd and Carson Turner passed the stick in 3:10.53, just missing the all-time top-10 list at Ole Miss and not far off the Rebels’ opening 3:08.85 last week that ranks fourth.

In the field, Ole Miss came away with two event wins – one each for the Rebel men and women.

Sophomore Lily Beattie – the reigning SEC silver medalist outdoors – took the crown after clearing an indoor career-best 4.15m/13-07.25. That height improves upon her spot at No. 6 in the Ole Miss record books indoors, and she took three attempts at what would have been an overall PR of 4.27m/14-0 before bowing out. Fellow sophomore Katie McFarland was the runner-up at a season-best 4.00m/13-01.50.

All-American senior and member of The Bowerman preseason watch list Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan took yet another shot put crown easily on his winning heave of 20.37m/66-10. Robinson-O’Hagan hasn’t lost the shot put to a fellow collegian indoors since January of 2024, and only twice to collegians in that same span across both indoor and outdoor.

Freshman Ashton Hearn was the closest to Robinson-O’Hagan in the competition, finishing as the runner-up on a new PR of 18.03m/59-2 that moved him from sixth to fifth in Ole Miss history indoors.

Fellow freshman Bayli Major led the charge for Ole Miss in the women’s triple jump, finding her way to the all-time top list with her fifth-place finish of 12.17m/39-11.25 (No. 15 all-time). Sophomore Indya Dotson had a PR of her own right behind her at 12.13m/39-09.75, while sophomore Madison Martinez leapt a season-best 12.06m/39-06.75.

In the men’s heptathlon, freshman William Numnum finished fifth overall with 4,483 points across the two-day event, already good for fourth in school history. Numnum’s second day of action was highlighted by a third-place showing in the final event, the 1000-meter (2:58.38; 680 points) and a fourth-place finish in the pole vault right beforehand (4.00m/13-01.50; 617 points).

Ole Miss track & field has next week off before returning to the road with a trip to Clemson for the Bob Pollock Invitational on Jan. 30-31.
