Rebels sweep UT-Martin, win 8th in a row ahead of SEC opener versus Bama

Taylor Roman blasted a three-run homer in the top of the first to help set an early tone in Tuesday’s doubleheader sweep of UT-Martin.

Ole Miss won for the eight time in a row on Tuesday, as the Rebels took game two of a doubleheader over Tennessee-Martin 10-0 in a five-inning, run-rule affair. Ole Miss won Tuesday’s game one by a 12-4 margin.

With the win, the Rebels improve to 18-5 with the SEC-opening series with Alabama set to start Friday in Oxford.

Ole Miss opened the game with three home runs accounting for all six runs in the bottom of the first. Persy Llamas started off the longball parade with a two-run roundtripper to right-center field. Taylor Roman then followed with a three-run blast down the right field line before Grace Thompson blasted a solo shot over the right field wall.

Meanwhile, Ole Miss pitcher Lilly Whitten was dealing. Whitten tossed a two hitter over five innings of work, striking out seven and walking none in a complete-game effort. Whitten, a transfer from Missouri, improved her record to 5-0 on the season.

Outfielder Tenley Gresham, hitting from the leadoff spot, turned in a 3-for-3 effort with three runs scored. Llamas and Madi George finished the game with two hits apiece.

After going up 6-0, the Rebels added two runs in the second and two in the third to make for the 10-0 final.
