Rebels Sweep Nevada on Opening Weekend

In a weekend that could not have been better for the Ole Miss baseball team, the Rebels took game 3 from the Nevada Wolfpack in dominant fashion, winning 13-2 in seven innings. The Rebels got hot early, starting off with 5 runs in the bottom of the first to establish their dominance on this cold, windy Sunday in Oxford.

Nevada hit their third solo home run off of a Rebel starter in the top of the second but the Wolfpack offense was, as it has been all weekend, largely ineffective against a dominant Ole Miss pitching staff.

The Rebel offense started with a Dom Decker walk and stolen base, then followed up with four consecutive hits which was capped off by a Daniel Pacella home-run to put Ole Miss up 5-0. In the top of the second Ole Miss starter Will Libert gave up a solo shot to open the inning, but was able to quickly dispatch of the Wolfpack after that.

The Rebels would go on to add 2 runs in the third and one in the fourth before exploding for another five run inning in the fifth. The five run fifth inning featured four Rebel walks, along with a double and stolen base by Judd Utermark, and propelled Ole Miss to its ten run margin to secure the run rule victory.

Wil Libert threw 5 innings giving up 4 hits and 2 runs while striking out seven and walking just one. He was succeeded on the mound by Patrick Collopy and Landon Waters, who each threw one inning and gave up one hit.

Colin Reuter started at DH for the Rebels today and went 3-4 with a double and 3 RBIs. Utermark went 2-3 with a double, a walk, and 2 RBIs.

The Rebels are back in Swayze Tuesday night against Arkansas State at 4 PM. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network+. Remember to stay here for the latest on everything about your Ole Miss Rebels!
