Rebels not able to overcome Kentucky on the road

The Ole Miss Rebels fought hard in the early going but ultimately came up short on Saturday morning as the Kentucky Wildcats used a late surge to secure a 72–63 Southeastern Conference victory at Rupp Arena. The road setback drops the Rebels to 11–9 overall and 3–4 in SEC play.

Both teams struggled to find offensive rhythm throughout much of the first half, but Kentucky pieced together enough timely baskets to carry a lead into the break. The Wildcats’ balanced scoring and stingy defense kept Ole Miss off balance, though the Rebels stayed within striking distance thanks to key contributions from their bench and a spirited effort on both ends.

Ole Miss trailed 34–29 at the break and briefly threatened early in the second half, cutting the deficit to a single possession on multiple occasions.

Each time Ole Miss appeared poised to take the lead, however, Kentucky answered. The Wildcats connected on several timely three-pointers and converted key free throws to maintain control. A 9–2 Kentucky run midway through the second half pushed the margin back to double digits and shifted momentum back in their favor.

The Rebels refused to fold, responding with a run of their own. AJ Storr continued to carry the offensive load, hitting a contested three and converting a fast-break layup to pull Ole Miss within six. Malik Dia followed with a strong finish in the paint, trimming the deficit to four with under three minutes remaining and giving the Rebels a chance to steal the game on the road.

But Kentucky delivered in the closing moments. A clutch three-pointer with just over a minute remaining stopped Ole Miss’ momentum, and the Wildcats followed with key defensive stops and free throws to seal the outcome.

Storr led the Rebels with 20 points, while Dia added 16 points and eight rebounds in a strong interior performance. Ole Miss shot just 32 percent from the field and struggled from three-point range, which proved costly against a disciplined Kentucky defense.

Ole Miss will look to regroup as it returns home for its next SEC matchup against Vanderbilt Saturday at 7:30 PM, aiming to get back on track and build momentum through the heart of conference play. As always stay here for the latest on all things about your Ole Miss Rebels!
