Rebels Defeat Nevada: Look For Sunday Sweep

Coach Mike Bianco in his twenty-sixth season at the helm of Ole Miss Baseball has the Rebels out to a 2-0 start after defeating the Nevada Wolfpack 5-1 Saturday afternoon. The Rebels had another good start from their pitching staff with Kade Townsend going 4 and 2/3 innings while throwing 54 pitches with 48 of those being strikes.

The Rebels got out to an early lead, going up 3-1 in the bottom of the second off a Tristan Bissetta homer, and never looked back

The Rebels didn’t take long to get on the board this evening, with Judd Utermark hitting a homer to open the scoring in the bottom of the first. Nevada would respond with a sacrifice fly to center field to make it a tie ballgame, but would be held scoreless for the rest of the game.

Ole Miss responded quickly with a Dom Decker single where he advanced to second on a throwing error, which was followed up by a two run blast from Bissetta. The Rebels were able to get another 11 hit performance from their offense, while holding Nevada to just 9 hits overall.

The Decker-Bissetta special was able to manufacture another insurance run for the Rebels in the sixth, with Bissetta looping a single to right field which drove Decker home from second base. Tate Sirmans collected his first home run in the fourth, driving the ball over the left field wall.

The Rebel pitching staff has looked outstanding through the first couple of games this season. In addition to Kade Townsend’s outstanding outing, the Rebels picked up pick up 3 and 1/3 scoreless innings from Taylor Rabe before Landon Koenig came in and shut down the Wolfpack in the top of the ninth to secure the Rebel victory.

The Rebels will face off against the Wolfpack again tomorrow, looking to secure a sweep at home to open their season, at 1:30 CT. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network+. As always stay here for the latest on all things about your Ole Miss Rebels.
