Persy Llamas
Just days after being named to Softball America’s top-100 players list, Ole Miss softball sophomore Persy Llamas has been named a top-10 first baseman in the nation by Softball America.
Llamas was recognized as the No. 7 first baseman in the nation in the release. Llamas is one of four true sophomores in the top-10, as the youngest members of those honored.
The Eastvale, Calif., native was also named the No. 59 player in the nation on Monday. The honors mark a continuation of her breakout freshman campaign in which she was named All-SEC Second Team and NFCA All-South Region Second Team.
Llamas hit .354 with 10 home runs, 10 doubles and 55 RBI, while maintaining a sparkling .990 fielding percentage and striking out only 11 times. Her 55 RBI set a new single season program record, alongside teammate Aliyah Binford.
Llamas and the Rebels are set to open the regular season on Feb. 5 in a doubleheader at Cal State Fullerton to kick off the season-opening Easton Classic.
