CARY, N.C. – Ole Miss Women’s Tennis defeated Campbell University, 7-0, in Cary, N.C., on Friday afternoon at the Cary Tennis Center.
The Rebels (1-0) defeated the Camels (0-3) in dominant fashion to begin Ole Miss’s 50th season. This marks Grant Roberts’ first win of his career as a head coach. The victory marked seven consecutive season-opening victories for The Rebels.
The Rebels got off to a quick start in doubles play, with No. 58 Andrea Nova and Emily Welker facing Sonia Pieczynska and Sandra Mari Marti. The duo picked up where they left off in the fall season, winning 6-1.
Playing their first competition together, the new partnership of Alice Soulié and Riley Crowder impressed with a 6-1 victory against Mollie Garcia and Hayley Glen.
Brooklyn Olson and Ichino Horikawa also impressed in the duo’s first outing. They played Veronika Prospalova and Aubrey Carroll, where they won 6-1.
In singles, Crowder faced Ilouna Aneca. She went on to secure the first singles win for the Rebels without giving up a single game, 6-0, 6-0.
The story wasn’t very different for Soulié, who defeated Mari Marti, 6-1, 6-0.
Nova continued the trend by defeating Carrroll, 6-0, 6-3. Putting the Rebels up 4-0, Nova’s win clinched the match for Ole Miss.
With the teams agreeing to complete all the singles matches, play continued. Welker and Garcia faced off on court one, with Welker winning 6-1, 6-1.
Olson and Pieczynska would find themselves in a tight first set, but Olson eventually secured the win, leaving no doubt in the second set, for she won 7-5, 6-0.
Horikawa was the last match to finish the day. She would complete a clean 7-0 victory for Ole Miss, for she was able to defeat Hayley Glen, 7-5, 6-3.
