Ole Miss women open season with 112-37 rout of Lane College

Ole Miss women’s basketball opened its season with a dominant performance, defeating Lane College 112-37 in an exhibition Wednesday night at the SJB Pavilion.

The Rebels built a 75-point margin in their lone exhibition before the regular season. The win gave head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin an early look at her team as Ole Miss prepares for another season with high expectations.

Ole Miss enters the season ranked No. 19 in the AP poll and No. 23 in the coaches poll. The Rebels have reached the NCAA Tournament in five consecutive seasons and added a highly regarded transfer group led by Talaysia Cooper and Jada Richard.

Cooper earned preseason All-SEC first-team recognition from the conference coaches, while Richard was named to the coaches’ second team. Their experience will be important as the Rebels look to build on the program’s recent success.

The exhibition win does not count toward Ole Miss’ regular-season record. The Rebels begin the games that count Monday, Nov. 2, when they host Alcorn State at the SJB Pavilion.
