Ole Miss takes care of ULM 5-1 on Sunday

Ole Miss softball takes care of the ULM Warhawks behind a strong performance in the circle by Emilee Boyer by the score of 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Rebels closed out the Ole Miss Classic undefeated.

“I think it was a really good weekend,” head coach Jamie Trachsel said. “It’s great, obviously, being at home, we have a beautiful stadium, tons of energy, and our grounds crew and production does a great job, and it’s easy to play here. I thought we did a great job showing up every game and making us a tough team to beat, and got on some teams early and took advantage of that. We had a couple of big blow-up innings that helped pull up the four victories.”

Ole Miss’s (16-5, 0-0 SEC) Boyer retired the first 12 batters faced before allowing a hit to the Warhawks while striking out five over that stretch.

The Rebels made it tough for the Warhawk starting pitcher, Dakota Lake, who lasted 1.1 innings before going to the bullpen. As Ole Miss had the bases loaded, Taylor Malvin delivered a base knock that scored Taylor Roman.

In the fourth inning, Mackenzie Pickens delivered a grand slam to make it 5-0.

“The home run ball has been a big part of our success,” Trachel said. “We don’t want to live and die off of that and not something we talk about, but has been a part of our wins and our big innings.”

Pickens finished the day going 1-for-4 with a run and four RBI.

ULM got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning on a solo home run by Hollie Thomas.

Boyer worked 7.0 complete innings allowed a run on three hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.

Ole Miss returns to the diamond on Tuesday as they play host to UT Martin for a doubleheader. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m. and can be streamed on SEC Network+.
