Ole Miss’ running game found its rhythm against Missouri

Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy hurdles a Missouri defender during the Rebels’ 31–3 win in Oxford.

Ole Miss’ rushing attack delivered a major boost Saturday, helping the Rebels pull away for a 31–3 win over Missouri. The Rebels ran for 257 yards and averaged 6.8 yards per carry against a Tigers defense that had allowed just 79 rushing yards over its previous two games.

Kewan Lacy led the way with 122 yards on 16 carries in his first game against his former team. Makhi Frazier added 101 yards on 15 attempts, giving Ole Miss two productive options in the backfield.

Before the game, Pete Golding said Frazier had “separated himself from some of the other guys” as an every-down option. Golding pointed to Frazier’s balance, body control, ability to hit the hole and pass protection.

The ground game gave Missouri another threat to account for and complemented Trinidad Chambliss’ passing. Chambliss threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns, then added a five-yard rushing score in the fourth quarter. He accounted for four touchdowns as Ole Miss finished with 498 total yards.

Lacy and Frazier combined for 223 rushing yards, giving Ole Miss a productive one-two punch heading into next week’s trip to Texas.
