Ole Miss looks to end 52-year drought against Missouri

Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding looks to lead the Rebels to their first victory over Missouri since 1974, ending a 52-year drought against the Tigers.

It’s been 52 years since Ole Miss last beat Missouri. Now, the Rebels have another chance to end that drought Saturday in Oxford.

Missouri leads the all-time series 7-1 and has won six straight meetings. The Rebels’ only victory came in 1974, when they shut out No. 18 Missouri 10-0 in Jackson, Mississippi.

The programs last met in 2019, when Missouri defeated Ole Miss 38-27 in Columbia. The Tigers also won their last trip to Oxford, picking up a 24-10 victory in 2013.

Now, the Rebels get another shot at home.

No. 9 Ole Miss is coming off a convincing 52-17 victory over Vanderbilt, while No. 13 Missouri enters following a 27-6 win over Texas A&M.

Former Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons and receiver Cayden Lee are also returning to Oxford wearing Missouri uniforms. Both have become important pieces of the Tigers’ offense, adding another interesting storyline to Saturday’s matchup.

Ole Miss coach Pete Golding understands the challenge Simmons presents.

“It’s scary to know how good he is and how talented he is,” Golding said Monday.

Golding also praised Lee, describing the former Rebels receiver as a “very elusive, elite route runner.”

That familiarity adds another challenge for an Ole Miss defense looking to build on its performance against Vanderbilt.

For Golding and the Rebels, Saturday is about more than ending a losing streak. It’s an opportunity to beat a ranked SEC opponent, build momentum and finally change a series Missouri has controlled for decades.

Missouri has owned the series. Saturday, Ole Miss gets another chance to change that.
