This weekend, Ole Miss baseball is set to dive into conference play as they travel to Austin, Texas, to face off against the formidable No. 2 Texas Longhorns.
With an impressive record of 15-3 so far this season, the Rebels have made a strong impression both at the plate and on the mound. Their only setbacks came during the Bruce Bolton College Classic in Houston, where they fell short against Baylor (6-5) and Coastal Carolina (9-2). Most recently, they suffered a close defeat to No. 7 Southern Miss (2-1).
As the season progresses, Ole Miss has been hitting home runs with remarkable power—totaling 36 long balls already! Leading the charge is third baseman Judd Utermark, who has hit ten home runs this season. He’s amassed 39 career home runs and is just nine shy of breaking Kyle Gordon’s all-time record of 48 homers set during his tenure from 1984 to 1987. Right fielder Tristan Bissetta closely trails Utermark with six home runs under his belt.
The Rebels have also showcased their batting skills with a total of 26 doubles this season, spearheaded by Collin Reuder who has collected eight doubles thus far.
On the pitching front, Ole Miss boasts a solid weekend rotation:
- Friday Starter: Junior Hunter Elliott holds a perfect record of 2-0 with a 3.66 ERA. He has allowed nine runs on 13 hits while striking out 30 batters and walking 15.
- Saturday Starter: Cade Townsend is also undefeated at 2-0 and features an outstanding ERA of just 0.48. He has given up one run on ten hits, accompanied by four walks and an impressive tally of 32 strikeouts.
- Sunday Starter: Will Libbert enters the weekend with a record of 2-1 and a ERA of 4.58 after allowing ten runs on sixteen hits alongside seven walks and twenty-four strikeouts.
