NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 32 Ole Miss men’s tennis team came up short against No. 18 Oklahoma, 3-4 on Monday afternoon at the Headington Family Center.
With the match knotted up at 3-3, the deciding point was in the hands of Vlado Jankanj and Orel Kimhi. Jankanj was 8-0 In dual singles play, before Kimhi won a crippling, 7-5 first set and then cruised to a 6-4 second set win to clinch the match for the Sooners.
Ole Miss (12-2, 0-2 SEC) was playing catch-up against Oklahoma early after dropping the doubles point, which gave the home team a 1-0 advantage headed into singles play.
In singles, the Sooners (9-2, 0-2 SEC) continued applying pressure as they would win the first singles court to go up 2-0.
The Rebels secured their first point after Pietro Pampanin defeated Johan Rodriguez, 6-4, 6 -3. Stefano D’Agostino tied the match at 2-2, after he scraped by No. 79 Oscar Lacides, 6-3, 7-5.
Oklahoma responded by securing the next singles point, followed by Ole Miss’s Noah Schlagenhauf, who won his singles match, 7-6 (7-2), 6-5, tying the match at 3-3 before losing the final point to Oklahoma.
Ole Miss men’s tennis will return to Oxford, Mississippi, to host Arkansas on Friday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m., with the match taking place at the Palmer Salloum Tennis Center.
