BIRMINGHAM, Ala.,- Ole Miss pitching was money all day Saturday on Day 2 of the Gold & Green Softball Classic hosted by UAB, Rebel pitchers worked a total of 16 innings in shoutout victories over Southern Illinois then Missouri State.
Ole Miss defeated Southern Illinois 1-0 in Saturday’s first game before taking am 2-0 won over Missouri State. The rebels have won all three of their games at the Green & Gold Classic this weekend.

OLE MISS 1, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS 0
In game one, Ole Miss pitchers Lilly Whitten and Emilee Boyer combined to hold the SIU Salukis to three hits, while the Rebel offense struggled to find itself. Finally, Ole Miss got the walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth when Mackenzie Pickens found the long ball and delivered a solo home run over the left field wall to end the game.
‘Whitten drew the start in the circle and worked three innings, allowing two hits and walk and striking out two.
Boyer entered the game in relief and would give up just one hit, as she went the rest of the way, earning the win to even her record on the young season to 2-2.
Pickens’ homer 3was one of just three hits for the Rebels, but it was decisive. The two other Rebels to hit safely in the contest were Cassie Reasner and Madi George.
OLE MISS 2, MISSOURI STATE 0
The Rebels scored a run in the bottom of the first and one in the sixth and let pitcher Kyra Aycock do the rest. Aycock threw a complete game for Ole Miss in its second game on Saturday.
The transfer from Oklahoma State allowed just three hits and a walk, striking out one as she improved her record to 5-1 on the year.
Madi George singled Taylor Malvin home in the first and Rettiger came across the plate on a scoring error in the sixth for the Rebels’ run production. Malvin and George finished with two hits apiece.
Ole Miss, now 10-4, will play Missouri State at 11:30 a.m. CT Sunday and Mercer at 4:30 pm to close out its stay at the Green & Gold Classic.
