OXFORD, Miss–NIL is the hottest topic in college athletics these days, and it just got a little spicier in Mississippi.

Lawmakers in the state of Mississippi passed a bill in late February that may help programs in the state recruit at the highest level.
The bill would make all money from NIL, tax-free for student athletes who have NIL deals. The bill now awaits process from the Senate, but if it succeeds and becomes a law, players at all schools inside the state would keep every cent from their endorsements.
Arkansas is the only state to actually go through with this bill, along with Texas, Florida, and Tennessee who already have no state income taxes.
Ole Miss currently sits second in the country in transfer portal rankings according to 247Sports, and 22nd in the nation via high school recruiting. If passed, this bill would hope to give Pete Golding and other coaches a larger scale to operate and recruit now guaranteeing players money.
Ole Miss’ Grove Collective has continued being a powerhouse in NIL over the last few season’s, and with last seasons historic run to the College Football Playoff semifinal, Rebel fans expect to remain amongst the best programs in the country moving forward.
