Men’s tennis finishes weekend unbeaten

The Ole Miss men’s tennis team finished the weekend undefeated after it defeated Furman in a doubleheader, winning both matches, 4-0, at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday.

MATCH ONE: Ole Miss 4, Furman 0 

The Rebels (4-0) had a hot start, securing the doubles point to get on the board early against the Paladins. It began with Pietro Pampanin and Vlado Jankanj, who started with a 6-0 victory against Furman’s (0-2) Alex Han and Finn Pollard. 

The Rebel pairing of Matthieu Chambonniere and Benjamin Martin kept it rolling with a 6-3 win against Evan Duggal and Landon Ecarma, to clinch the doubles point. 

In Singles, Noah Schlagenhauf squared off against Furman’s Landon Ecarma. The Rebels dominated, etching a 6-2, 6-0 win, putting the Rebels up 2-0.

On court four, Isac Strömberg faced Furman’s Nicolas Dispas. The Stockholm, Sweden, native secured the first set with a 6-1 victory. The Senior continued to bring the heat in set two and earned another 6-1 win to capture the match point to give the Rebels their third point. 

Chambonniere had another stellar outing for the Rebels, for he stayed determined and defeated Nico Snyder, 6-1, 6-2, to clinch the match..

MATCH 2: Ole Miss 4, Furman 0 

The Rebels continued their domination, securing the double once again. The No. 11 pairing of Stromberg and Milburn earned a dominant 6-3 win against Landon Ecarma and Evan Duggal, along with the Rebel duo of Chambonniere and Martin, for they defeated Nico Snyder and Nicolas Dispas, 6-3, to notch the Rebels’ first point of the match. 

In singles, Schlagenhauf dominated in the first set, getting off to a 6-0 start. From there, he continued to roll with a 6-3 second set to win the match against Nicolas Dispas. 

Jankanj faced Furman’s Evan Duggal, the Belgrade, Serbia, native secured a tight first set 6-4. Jankanj continued to bring the heat with a 6-1 victory in the second set to put the Rebels up 3-0. 

Milburn stayed patient and came out victorious on court five, 6-3, 6-2, against Landon Ecarma. With that win, it clinched the match for the Rebels to conclude the four-match weekend. 


Ole Miss will return home to host Charlotte in Oxford, Miss. On Jan. 23, the Rebels’ first match will start at 3:30 p.m. CT.
