Madi George, Lilly Whitten key Ole Miss to midweek victory at North Alabama

Lilly Whitten worked three perfect innings of middle relief Tuesday evening.

Ole Miss scored twice in the top of the eight inning to break a 2-2 tie and take a 4-2, extra-inning victory over tough North Alabama team Tuesday evening in Florence, Ala.

Offensive hero Madi George ripped a two-out, two-run double down the right field line in the top of the eight inning to score Taylor Malvin and Mackenzie Pickens for what proved to be the game-winning hit. Pitcher Emilee Boyer, who entered the game in the sixth, retired UNA in the bottom of the eighth top improve her record in the circle to 5-5.

It was George who stroked a solo home run over the left field wall in the top of the seventh to tie the game 2-2 and force extra innings.

The victory improved Ole Miss to 19-8 (0-3 SEC). North Alabama dipped to 17-5.

UNA struck for two runs in the bottom of the second and the game would remain that way until top of the fifth. That’s when Kennedy Bunker slapped a solo home run to deep right field, cutting into the deficit to make it a 2-1 score.

Lilly Whitten threw three perfect innings of middle relief for starter Kyra Aycock before giving way to Boyer.
