Llamas, Pickens and George land on Top 15 of Softball America’s power rankings

Ole Miss second baseman Mackenzie Pickens

After an 18-5 start ahead of the start of conference play, the Ole Miss softball program has had three tabbed to Softball America’s position power rankings for March.

Persy Llamas was named the No. 12 player in the nation at first base, while Mackenzie Pickens was tabbed as the No. 14 player at second base. Madi George landed at No. 11 in the nation at the utility spot.

Llamas has been a critical part of the Rebels success so far, hitting .430 with five home runs, 25 RBI and six doubles. The sophomore is on pace for another career season after a record-breaking freshman campaign and has shown a penchant for the big moment, with a walk-off winner against Miami in the home opener.

Pickens has solidified herself as one of the top players at her position behind .348 hitting with six home runs, 24 RBI, five doubles, 11 walks and an SEC-leading seven hit-by-pitches. The sophomore already matched the single-game program record with six RBI in a win over Mercer and has locked down the No. 2 role in the lineup.

George is in the middle of a breakout freshman campaign, leading the team with a .455 batting average, along with seven home runs, 23 RBI and 14 walks. Her .833 slugging and .550 on-base percentage also lead the team, while her seven home runs rank third in the SEC among freshmen.

The Rebels are back in action on Friday, hosting No. 4 Alabama to kick off the SEC season. Game one is set for 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
