Ole Miss’ running game hit another level against Missouri. Kewan Lacy rushed for a season-high 122 yards on 16 carries, and Makhi Frazier added 101 yards on 15 attempts. Together, they helped the Rebels run for 257 yards in a 31–3 win. It was the first time Ole Miss had two 100-yard rushers in the same game since 2022.
The challenge gets tougher in Austin. Texas has allowed 106.3 rushing yards per game this season, so the Rebels may have to work for every yard. Still, Ole Miss has two backs coming off big performances and can keep both involved as the game unfolds.
Frazier said the backs complement one another, with “some of us fast” and “some of us downhill runners.” That variety could help Ole Miss change the pace and keep the Texas defense from keying on one style. Frazier has also shown he can take on a larger role, following 73 yards against Vanderbilt with his 101-yard performance against Missouri.
Lacy’s health remains a factor. He was listed as probable on Wednesday’s initial injury report after dealing with a shoulder issue, and his workload could depend on how he feels closer to game day. The game also brings Lacy back to his home state of Texas, adding a personal angle to the matchup.
Ole Miss will need its offensive line to keep building chemistry against a strong Texas defense. Lineman Patrick Kutas said the unit is improving as it gets more repetitions together. If the line creates room, Lacy and Frazier can help balance the offense and take some pressure off Trinidad Chambliss.
The Rebels don’t have to rely on one back to carry the load. If Lacy is ready and Frazier keeps his recent momentum, Ole Miss can use their different running styles to keep Texas guessing and give Chambliss more room to operate.
