Kewan Lacy has no return timetable as Ole Miss awaits shoulder decision

Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy carries the ball for the Rebels. Lacy has no return timetable after dislocating his left shoulder against Texas.

Ole Miss is still waiting to learn when running back Kewan Lacy might return after dislocating his left shoulder against Texas.

Head coach Pete Golding said Wednesday on RebTalk Live that the injury involves the same shoulder Lacy had surgically repaired during the offseason. Ole Miss sent Lacy’s MRI and other medical information to the Dallas surgeon who performed the procedure. Lacy remains in rehabilitation while the team and his doctors determine the next step.

“I don’t really know what that’s going to look like moving forward,” Golding said.

A season-ending absence is possible, but Ole Miss has not ruled Lacy out for the season or announced a timetable for his return. The extent of his absence will depend on the medical evaluation and how he progresses through rehabilitation.

Ole Miss Evaluates Its Running Back Options

With Lacy unavailable against Auburn, Ole Miss will turn to a group of backs with different levels of experience. Makhi Frazier has been the leading option behind Lacy, rushing for 301 yards on 51 carries through the Texas game. JT Lindsey has added 86 yards on 25 carries, while Shekai Mills-Knight has gained 42 yards on four attempts and scored a touchdown. Joshua Dye has four carries for 25 yards.

Golding said the Rebels will need contributions from the entire group as they establish roles in practice.

“We’re going to need all those guys moving forward,” Golding said.

Frazier, Mills-Knight, Lindsey and Dye could all have opportunities while Ole Miss sorts out the rotation. Their workloads may depend on how they perform during the week and what the team needs in each situation.

What’s Next for Lacy?

The uncertainty stretches beyond the Auburn game, with Georgia approaching and Oklahoma also on the schedule later in the season. Ole Miss will have to prepare its backfield for an extended stretch without knowing when—or whether—Lacy can return.

For now, the Rebels are waiting for the Dallas surgeon’s evaluation and monitoring Lacy’s progress through rehabilitation. A season-ending absence remains a possibility, but there is no official diagnosis or return date.
