In 94, we had a wood stove insert in our fireplace and a back yard full of wood. My son was diagnosed with asthma a few years later and his doctor told us we shouldn’t burn wood in the house. So I haven’t used it in 25+ years. There is no way I am going to fire it up. I’d rather be cold than have a fire in my flue.
I could kick myself for not following through with my plan to do something last winter.::Everyone stay safe. I’m in Nashville. For most of the week, they have been predicting a big snow event. Now, things are trending for more ice than snow, though not as much as y’all are getting south of us. I have “meant” to get a small generator for years. There are now none in town when I started checking this morning. So if power goes out, we’ll wrap up and try to stay warm. I guess I’ll walk around the house dressed like I’m going to a cold November football game.
As soon as this is over, I’ve got to get a backup plan in place. I’m thinking about a solar panel/generator combo. I just want to be able to keep one room in the house warm. I can cook outside on the grill (I always keep a spare 20lb LP tank ready for the grill) and this time of year, I can put items from the freezer outside in a cooler or in a car. I would love to hear the plans those of you without a fire place have for getting through this.
All of our power banks and devices are charged.
Good luck everyone and God bless!::I hope the membership will become large enough to warrant a General Chat forum. I realize this site is in it’s infancy and taking baby steps, but someday, I hope there is a lot of growth as word gets out and there is a need for it in the future.
I’m looking forward to baseball coverage. Spring is just around the corner.::I haven’t read everything, but it seems that someone ticked him off on twitter while he was watching the OKC Thunder lose a close basketball game. In his reaction to the tweet, he made the comment that he was sorry their team (Ole Miss?) didn’t make it to Monday night and that they would never make it that far again. He also said a few disparaging things about Ole Miss fans and the school. It also seems like alcohol was involved in the late night tweeting. (I know, it is now X). It was bad enough that my son, who is on Ben and Chuck’s page, asked me after church “What in the world was Neal thinking?”
He issued an apology this morning and then additional comments about his apology a few hours later. Some are defending him, some are willing to forgive and forget and others are demanding he either step down or be fired immediately.
The irony hit me with a lot of those demanding that he be fired for his derisive comments about Ole Miss fans is they are some of the very same people who took over 247 last spring and verbally abused many of the old posters and blasted David and those who were part of the “Beacon gang” as they took a forum that was largely decent and made it a place were it is okay to throw trash and vulgarity at anyone who doesn’t see things the way you do.
I started to point out the irony on Rebel Grove, but then deleted it before I posted. At this point in time, I didn’t want to deal with all of the vitriol that I’m sure would have come my way if I had tried to make the point. It’s just not worth the effort of getting into a mud slinging contest with a punch of pigs.-

::I had renewed my annual membership there the week before the change. I wish I had known. I spent most of my time on the Gen Chat forum, but also enjoyed the old sports forum.
I do enjoy the editors’ content, but there are a few posters there who act like middle school playground bullies who gang up on any one who dissents. I have stayed in the safe zone, but hated to see how some have been treated. A few treated OscarReb and Lodestar disgracefully.
A thread this week was making fun of this site. So it wouldn’t surprise me to see a few try what SWarriorreb suggested.
I am looking forward to see this site as it matures and grows.-

::I was wondering the same thing. Inquiring minds want to know.
Isn’t it nice to have a head ball coach who doesn’t troll his own fan base?

::Last spring, my son and I were in Oxford for a Saturday baseball game. We were right above 1st base. Austin came down the aisle below us and kids started lining up. He patiently signed autographs and posed for pictures. Then he approached a guy in a wheelchair. Austin kneeled down to this guy’s level and they talked for a while. Then Austin left, but came back in a few minutes with food and a soft drink for the man in the wheelchair.
I became a big Austin Simmons fan that day. -
