Cotie McMahon is a superstar in all definitions of the word. She is the anchor-newcomer on a roster that is composed of 83 percent first-year players.
That’s right. Eighty-three percent newcomers.
Ole Miss entered this season with the dubious task of replacing its top three scorers from last season’s Sweet 16 team.
McMahon is the brightest star of several. With three games remaining in the regular season, McMahon is averaging 20.7 points per game and 5.6 rebounds, playing mostly at the point guard position. She also brings the crowd out of its seats with her moves and athleticism.
Just listen to the ladies over at I Talk Hoops (@trendyhoopsstars) wax poetically about the Ohio State transfer and future WNBA lottery pick.
“Among the conference’s top six teams, the Rebels are the only program to absorb that level of turnover,” said I Talk Hoops. “Yet, here they are, firmly in the mix. S
“So how has Ole Miss remained one of the SEC’s most competitive teams? The answer starts with Coach Yo reloading through the transfer portal, led by Cotie McMahon, one of the most impactful additions in the country.
“After three seasons at Ohio State, the Dayton native has given Ole Miss a consistent 20-point scorer—something Coach Yo hasn’t had since Shakira Austin. McMahon has been dominant in SEC play, averaging (22.9) points, (6.3) rebounds, and (3.7) assists. She’s been the steady force behind the Rebels’ biggest wins, including a 39-point, 10-rebound, 5-assist performance against No. 21 Tennessee. She also dropped 22 and 27 points in top-five victories over Oklahoma and Vanderbilt. Her (22.8) points per game versus ranked opponents ranks among the highest in the nation this season.
“McMahon headlines a trio of double-figure scorers that also includes 6-foot-4 Virginia transfer Latasha Lattimore, who is averaging (10.7) points, (6.7) rebounds, and (2.2) blocks, along with 6-foot-3 Christen Iwuala (UCLA), who is enjoying a breakout campaign in her final collegiate season.
“At Ole Miss, McMahon has expanded her role, frequently bringing the ball up the floor, initiating the offense, and creating for others. It’s a side of her game we didn’t consistently see at Ohio State, and it’s showcasing her versatility to draft scouts. Her energy has been contagious, and it’s also played a major role in keeping this group competitive on a nightly basis. “

Ole Miss dropped a critical affair Thursday night versus No. 7 LSU. The Rebels close out the SEC regular-season at No. 3 South Carolina, before games with Florida and Texas A&M.
