Clemson ousts Ole Miss from NCAAs

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 28 Ole Miss men’s tennis team saw its NCAA Tournament run end on Friday afternoon, as the Rebels lost 4-3 to No. 34 Clemson in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

The Rebels (19-10, 6-8 SEC) put up a gutsy fight against the Tigers (17-12, 8-5 ACC), but ultimately fell short of advancing.

Clemson would gain the advantage early after sweeping the doubles point, taking a 1-0 lead. However, in singles, Ole Miss would counter as Vlado Jankanj defeated Henrik Bladelius, 6-1, 6-3, to tie the match.

The Tigers regained the lead when Matisse Farzam defeated Pietro Pampanin, 6-1, 6-3. The Rebels would respond with another court win, as Isac Stromberg defeated Noah Cherubino, 6-4, 7-5.

With the match knotted at 2-2, Clemson would secure the next court victory to gain a 3-2 advantage. But No. 83 Stefano D’Agostino would pull away from No. 44 Viktor Markov despite dropping the first set, 3-6.

All eyes looked upon court five, where Noah Schlagenhauf was in a tight match with Clemson’s Marko Mesarovic. Schlagenhauf fell in the first set, 3-6 but bounced back with a 6-4 win in the second set.
