Caleb Cunningham is making his progress count for Ole Miss. The sophomore caught three passes for 61 yards and scored his first career touchdown in the Rebels’ 31-3 win over Missouri.
His 17-yard touchdown catch from Trinidad Chambliss capped an 80-yard drive in the second quarter. Cunningham also hauled in a 25-yard catch and run, the longest reception of his career.
Cunningham has grown into a larger role one step at a time. After catching one pass as a freshman, he set a career high with six catches for 65 yards against Charlotte earlier this season. Through the Missouri game, he has 13 catches for 176 yards and one touchdown.
Pete Golding has seen that progress in Cunningham’s preparation and technique. “The development at the position is getting more technically sound every week, and we’re getting him incorporated into the offense,” Golding said. He added that Cunningham has “a really bright future.”
The Missouri game showed how Cunningham’s development is translating onto the field: he’s making explosive plays, finishing drives and giving Ole Miss another productive option in the passing game.
