Ole Miss pitcher Emilee Boyer tossed a seven-inning complete game and Ole Miss used the long ball to ultimately defeat visiting Samford 6-2 Tuesday night. The win improved the Rebels to 26-15 on the season, while Samford dipped to 17-25.
Freshman phenom Madi George broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth when she blasted a three-run home run over the left field wall with teammates Mackenzie Pickens and Persy Llamas on base to push the Rebels ahead 5-2 in what had been a nip-and-tuck affair.
Rachel Conners added an unneeded insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with a solo dinger that swam over the right field wall to make for the 6-2 final.
Meanwhile, Boyer was sitting them down. He final line read two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk. She struck out 10 to improve her personal record to 9-7 on the season.
