Men’s tennis falls to Mississippi State

Ole Miss men’s tennis fell to No. 6 Mississippi State, 6-1, on Friday night at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

Ole Miss (15-6, 3-6 SEC) began the match by seizing its only match point in doubles play, where, after each team claimed a doubles court, it came down to Kai Milburn and Isac Stromberg, who were facing off against the No. 4 pairing of Petar Jovanovic and Be Sanchez Martinez.

Milburn and Stromberg would carry their doubles match into a tiebreaker against Mississippi State’s top-ranked duo and pull out a 7-6, (7-4) to clinch the doubles point for Ole Miss.

The win was the highest-ranked doubles win for Stromberg and D’Agostino this season.

Despite striking first in the match, Ole Miss was unable to cling to its lead in singles as Mississippi State (17-3, 8-2 SEC) went on to win all six singles courts to clinch the match.

The Rebels will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Sunday, March 29, to take on No. 49 Alabama. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Magill Tennis Complex.
