It took only four and half innings fo4r the Ole Miss Rebels to hand UAN a run-ruled, 11-0 victory on the softball field Wednesday evening in Oxford. The Rebels improved to 21-14 with the victory over the Blazers.
The Rebels used a five-run, second-inning outburst to begin the onslaught. The inning was highlighted by a two-run blast off the bat of left fielder Laylonna Applin. Center fielder Taylor Malvin, second baseman McKenzie Pickens and first baseman Persy Llamas also drove in runs in the frame, all with RBI singles.
‘The Rebels tacked two more on in the third to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
Ole Miss exploded again in the bottom of the fourth, as this time four Rebels crossed the plate. Shortstop Cassie Reasner picked up a run-scoring single before catcher Rachel Connors provided the exclamation point with a three-run home run over the right-center-field wall to make for the 11-0 final.
Meanwhile, Ole Miss pitching was stellar, as starter Emilee Boyer and reliver Lilly Whitten combined to hold UAB to just one hit. Boyer worked the first three innings, allowing the one hit, no runs and racking up two strike outs. Whitten entered in the fourth and pitched the final two stanzas, allowing no hits and striking out three.
UAB saw its record drop to 12-21.

Ole Miss now hops back into the fire of the SEC on Friday when the Rebels begin a three-game series in Knoxville versus Tennessee. The Rebels are off to an 0-9 start in league play, being swept by nationally-ranked Alabama, Texas and Oklahoma in order.
