Sooners sweep Ole Miss, Rebs drop to 0-9 in SEC with No. 1 Tennessee up next

Ole Miss pitcher Kyra Aycock in action Monday versus Oklahoma.

Ole Miss treacherous stretch to begin conference play continued here in Oxford on Monday, as the No. 4 Oklahoma Sooners defeated Rebels 5-2 to sweep a three-game series. It was the Rebels’ third consecutive SEC series against an opponent ranked inside the top five in the nation.

Ole Miss dropped to 0-9 in league play and to 20-14 overall. Oklahoma out-scored the Rebels 29-4 over the last three games. Monday’s contest was the only one not ended early due to the mercy rule.

The Sooners improved to 32-2 and to 6-0 in the conference.

Oklahoma State transfer Kyra Aycock (8-6) drew the start in the circle for the Rebels and looked great early on. She struck out a career high seven Sooners in the complete-game loss. Her final line read five runs on six hits and three walks.

The Rebels enjoyed a 2-1 lead up until the top of the sixth. That’s when Oklahoma struck in dramatic fashion, as Isabela Emerling blasted a one-out grand slam over the left field wall to put the Sooners ahead by the final of 5-2.

Four different Rebels finished the game with one single apiece. Madi George was credited with a double in the five-hit Ole Miss offensive output.

Audrey Lowery (15-1) worked the game’s final 2.2 innings of relief to earn the victory for Oklahoma.
