The No. 4 Oklahoma Sooners secured the series victory against Ole Miss with an impressive 14-2 win in just five innings on Sunday night.
Oklahoma (31-2, 5-0 SEC) entered the game boasting a remarkable total of 121 home runs this season and showcased their power by hitting five more, bringing their season tally to 126.
The Sooners wasted no time, jumping out to a commanding 4-0 lead thanks to back-to-back home runs from Gabbie Garcia and Kai Minor.
In response, Ole Miss (26-12, 0-7 SEC) sent senior pitcher Emilee Boyer to take on the formidable Oklahoma lineup.Â
As the second inning unfolded, Oklahoma further widened the gap with a two-run homer from Kasidi Pickering, pushing the score to 6-0.
Miali Guachino, Oklahoma’s starter who returned to face her former team in Oxford, delivered a solid performance over four innings. She allowed only one run on three hits, issued one walk, and struck out five batters.
Ole Miss finally got on the board in the second inning when Cassie Reasner launched a solo home run to left field.
The Sooners responded emphatically in the third inning with another two-run blast from Minor. She finished the game strong with a stellar line: 2-for-3 at bat with two home runs, two runs scored, and three RBIs.
The fourth inning proved monumental for Oklahoma as they exploded for six runs—highlighted by Abby Dayton’s grand slam that sealed their dominance.
In an effort to change momentum, Coach Jamie Trachsel brought Graycen Jordan into pitch. Unfortunately for Ole Miss, she faced three batters in just 0.1 innings while allowing two runs off one hit and issuing one walk. Boyer returned to finish out the fourth inning but struggled as well; she pitched 3.2 innings while giving up a staggering twelve runs on seven hits along with eight walks and five strikeouts.
In the fifth inning, Lilly Whitten entered and made quick work of her opponents by striking out all three batters she faced in her single inning of work.
Ole Miss managed to get Rachel Connors aboard with a leadoff double down the right field line. She later scored on a sacrifice fly from Mackenzine Pickens that brought some life back into their dugout.
Looking ahead, Ole Miss will face off against No. 4 Oklahoma again on Monday night for game three of this exciting series. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., airing live on the SEC Network.
