Women’s tennis sweeps Missouri State

The No. 37 Ole Miss Women’s Tennis team cruised to victory in both matches of its doubleheader this weekend, beginning with a 4-1 victory against Missouri and a 4-0 sweep against Missouri State on Saturday night at the Palmer Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center.

Missouri (11-11, 0-9 SEC), 4-1.

The Rebels (9-7, 3-6 SEC) began the day against Missouri and would quickly secure the doubles point after quick wins from Alice Soulié and Riley Crowder, who handled Korina Roso and Alex Ackman, 6-0, and Beatrice Stagno and Brookly Olson, who won, 6-2.

In singles, Missouri’s (11-11, 0-9 SEC) lone match point came when Olson left her singles match because of an injury, which forfeited the point to the visitors.

After the Rebels would continue to build their advantage, with No. 15 Emily Welker grabbing the first singles point, securing a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Roso. Crowder would go on to claim another court, defeating Artimedi, 6-3, 6-2.

With the Rebels leading, 3-1, Nova would clinch the match for the Rebels with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Lara Quaglia.

Two matches remained unfinished, with Soulié and Octa having traded a set each, 6-3, 2-6, and Horikawa was holding a 6-3, 4-2 advantage over Lazar.

Following their match against the Tigers, Ole Miss took on Missouri State (4-11, 0-1 CUSA) for its final match of the day.

Ole Miss rode its momentum from its previous match after clinching the doubles point to start against Missouri State.

Beatrice Stagno then tacked on the next match point for the Rebels as she picked up her first singles court win at home after defeating Elsie Jackson, 6-0, 6-1.

After Horikawa secured the third match point for the home team after defeating Leticia Caldararo, 6-0, 6-0. Then Soulié would deliver the final blow as she defeated Billur Gonlusen, 6-1, 6-0, to complete the sweep against the Grizzlies.

The final three singles courts went unfinished as Ole Miss clinched the match.

The Rebels will continue play at home on Friday, March 27, at 3 p.m. CT as they prepare to face off against No. 5 Texas A&M.
