Ole Miss sophomore right-handed pitcher Cade Townsend left the game early on Saturday against the Texas Longhorns in the second inning with shoulder soreness. In which the Rebels lost 11-2.
Townsend left after allowing a walk to open the inning.
On Tuesday, head coach Mike Bianco released a statement to the media about the situation.
“Cade got an MRI yesterday and met with Dr. Luber, our team orthopedic,” Bianco said. “The MRI came back clean and showed mild inflammation in his shoulder. Cade will begin rehab and throwing today and will progress day-by-day.”
This season, Townsend is 2-0 with a 0.92 ERA in 19.2 innings worked while allowing three runs on 12 hits with seven walks and 32 strikeouts.
Ole Miss returns to the diamond this afternoon as they play host to Austin Peay. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m. and can be streamed on SEC Network+.
