Ole Miss falls in series sweep to Alabama

Ole Miss rallied late, but it wasn’t enough to slow down Jocelyn Briski and the red hot Crimson Tide.

Ole Miss softball got a taste of defeat this weekend to start SEC play against the No.4 Alabama Crimson Tide, losing 2-1 in the final game Sunday.

Coming off a double-header Friday, Ole Miss looked to rally back and hang their heads high despite dropping the first two games of the season. Emilee Boyer got the start for the Rebels and didn’t disappoint, finishing the line with two runs allowed with eight strikeouts. Boyer escaped big trouble in the third inning with the bases loaded and only one out, but a strikeout would help the Rebel’s pitcher avoid any critical damage.

The Ole Miss offense failed to find any ounce of momentum against Alabama starter Jocelyn Briski. Briski delivered big for the Crimson Tide, allowing just one run on four hits before being removed in the seventh inning. Ole Miss remained shutout throughout the game until the seventh inning, as Sophomore Persy Llamas would deliver the only hit of the game for the Rebels going into the final inning.

The sole run for Ole Miss came in the seventh inning as Llamas and Cassie Reasner found themselves on base, and the ever dangerous Taylor Roman would drive Llamas in to make it a one point deficit. Alabama would make a change after the score, inserting Freshman Vic Moten. Alabama would deliver the final blow with a strikeout, forcing the Rebels to a 0-3 start in conference play.

Ole Miss will travel to play North Alabama Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT.
