Ole Miss set to hire former Rebel LB to the staff

The Rebels have made some strategic changes to their defensive coaching staff this offseason, welcoming back one of their own, Lanier Goethie. On Sunday, it was announced that the former Rebel linebacker would join Pete Golding’s defensive team in Oxford.

Goethie began his coaching career at various programs before ascending to the position of linebackers coach at Duke in 2018. He later took on the role of defensive recruiting coordinator in 2021. During his time as a player for Ole Miss, he recorded an impressive 178 tackles and served as a team captain during his senior year. Over four seasons, Goethie contributed to the Rebels’ success with 29 wins and three bowl game appearances, including two victories in the Independence Bowl against Oklahoma (1999) and Nebraska (2002). In recognition of his bravery and leadership, he received the Chucky Mullins Courage Award in 2002.

Before rejoining Ole Miss, Goethie served as the defensive line coach for the Atlanta Falcons and specialized in defensive front strategies. His wealth of experience and familiarity with the Ole Miss program will undoubtedly be valuable assets as he returns to Oxford. Welcome back!
