When chancery court judge Robert Whitwell reconvened the Trinidad Chambliss hearing a week ago today to read his decision, there were three rather conspicuous absences in the court room.
During a break for Whitwell to consider the arguments from Chambliss’ side and the NCAA over his eligibility this fall, the three guys from the NCAA disappeared.
Vamoosed.
Vanished.
The NCAA had left the building.
Yes, it was obvious that Trinidad was winning and was going to win the day.
“That’s not how we do things here,” said Whitwell, then adding he was likely to seek contempt of court charges against the NCAA legal team.
Well, here we are.
The NCAA will be coming back to lovely Pittsboro, Mississippi.
On Wednesday, Whitwell issued a show cause to the NCAA which requires them to personally appear before the court.
In short, these boys have gotten themselves into a Mississippi mud storm with their shenanigans against Ole Miss and Chambliss. They might be spending jail time in the Magnolia State for their disappearance act.
The order reads as follows: “This cause is before the Court on its own ore tenus motion to require the attorneys for the National Collegiate Athletic Association, J. Douglas Minor, Taylor J. Askew, and Daniel J. Zeitlin, in the above styled cause, to personally appear before this Court and show cause and explain why all of them left the courtroom in the Calhoun County Courthouse in Pittsboro, Miss., on Thursday, February 12, 2026, before the conclusion of the petitioner, Trinidad Chambliss’s, First Amended Petition for Preliminary and Permanent Injunctive Relief and Declaratory Judgement (MEC #4) and Motion for Preliminary Injunction (MEC #5), and the final open court ruling by the Court (MEC #22). The attorneys’ departure was made without obtaining the Court’s prior permission and approval.
“This matter will be addressed at a later proceeding at which time the Court will decide whether some form of sanctions against the aforementioned attorneys, if any, are appropriate under the circumstances.”
Wow. The NCAA just received a show cause, ha ha. They have always loved to throw that legal term around.
If you were there, and I was, this makes you laugh.
The only cause it can possibly show is that they had to be in Knoxville on Friday to lose another case.
This is justice.
This is Mississippi.
Can I get an Amen?
