After 21 days without a home match, Ole Miss defeated both Mercer, 7-0, and rival Memphis, 4-1, in a double header on Saturday in Oxford, Mississippi, at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center.
Ole Miss (11-0) was leading Mercer (0-5), 3-0, and on court five, Benjamin Martin was up against Prince Gandonou, with a chance to clinch the match. Martin would dominate Gandonou, 6-1, 6-2, to give Ole Miss its 10th win of the season.
The Rebels’ dominance against Mercer began with winning the doubles point. Stefano D’Agostino and Pietro Pampanin defeated Alex Aldaz and Cameron Douthit, 6-3.
Then the No. 18 duo of Isac Stromberg and Kai Milburn followed up by defeating Isak Padio and Nemanja Stefanovic, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point for the Rebels.
In singles play, the freshman Pampanin got things started as he put Alex Aldaz away, 6-0, 6-3, to put the Rebels up 2-0.
Noah Schlagenhauf was then able to set up Martin for the clinching point after he defeated Masuda, 6-1, 6-3.
The remaining singles matches were played out, for Gordon Whitwell defeated Howell Burns, 6-4, 6-1. Followed by Stefano D’Agostino, who defeated Isak Padio,6-2, 4-6, 10-1.
Chambonniere would win the last match of singles play after he defeated Stefanovic, 4-6, 6-2, 10-7.
Ole Miss then played against out-of-state rival Memphis (5-3) for its second match of the day. The Rebels led 3-1, Chambonniere was matched up against Reeve with a chance to clinch the match.
Chambonniere won the first set, 6-4, then dominated the second set, 6-1, to secure Ole Miss’s 11th consecutive win.
The Rebels started the match similarly to their match against Mercer by securing the doubles point. Chambonniere and Martin got things started by defeating Lasse Rensing and Keoni Puig McCallan, 6-3.
Memphis’s No. 87 duo of Marcos Fabra Castro and Sam Reeve defeated No. 18 Kai Milburn and Isac Stromberg, 6-2.
The doubles point came down to D’Agostino and Pampanin as the pair defeated Obrad Markovski and Marko Milosavljevic, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point.
The first singles point for the Rebels came from Isac Stromberg, who defeated Milosavljevic, 6-1, 6-1. Memphis then secured its first match point when Castro Fabra defeated, 6-3, 6-3.
D’Agostino secured the third match point for the Rebels after he defeated Maxime Dubouch, 6-2, 6-4, which set up Chambonniere for the match clinch.
Ole Miss will continue its home stretch on Sunday, February 15, as the Rebels will face off against Belmont at 1 p.m. at the Palmer Salloum Tennis Center.
