FULLERTON, Calif. – No. 14 Ole Miss ended its stay at the Easton Classic softball tournament on Saturday with a 10-1 victory over Cal State Northridge. The Rebels won three of their five games at the season-opening event, taking victories twice over Cal State Northridge and defeating host Cal State Fullerton.
The game was halted after six innings of play due to the mercy rule.
Ole Miss took advantage of the second strong pitching performance of the tourney from Oklahoma State transfer Kyra Aycock. Aycock (2-0) worked a complete game, allowing just four hits and one earned run. She demonstrated exceptional control of the strike zone, as she walked none and struck out four.
Meanwhile, the big and timely at-bats belonged to shortstop and Kentucky transfer Cassie Reasner and preseason All-American first baseman Persy Llamas. Together they accounted for nine of the Rebels’ 10 runs. Llamas recorded five RBIs while Reasner drove in four. Both homered in the contest.
Ole Miss returns to the diamond at the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday. The Rebels will play McNeese State in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. CT. On Friday, Ole Miss will tangle with Texas A&M Corpus Christie at 11 a.m. CT and Louisiana-Lafayette at 1:30 p.m. The Rebels will end the tournament on Saturday versus host Louisiana-Lafayette with a 1:30 p.m. first pitch.
