FULLERTON, Calif. – The 13th-ranked Ole Miss softball team made quick work of Cal State Northridge on Friday in the Rebels first game of day two at the Easton Classic. The Rebels pounded out 16 hits over five innings to defeat CSNU 13-1 in a game shortened by the mercy rule.

The victory improved the Rebels to 2-1 on the season, as they split a doubleheader with Cal State Fullerton on Thursday.

Missouri transfer Lilly Whitten drew the start in the circle for the Rebels and was magnificent. Whitten worked the game’s first four innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run, while walking one and striking out four. UConn transfer Hope Jenkins closed things out with a scoreless fifth inning.

The Rebels exploded for four runs in the top of the third to break a scoreless tie. Ole Miss then added seven runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to close out the day.

The Ole Miss offensive carnage was severe. Nine different Rebels hit safely in the contest with multiple-hit hitters including Tenly Grisham, Mackenzie Pickens, Persy Llamas, Madi George and Rachel Connors. George hit her first home run of the season and Grisham stole two bases.

The Rebels next action follows this game versus Boise State to close out their Friday action. Ole Miss will play a single game on Saturday at noon CT versus Cal State Northridge.
