Ms. Clutch Taylor Roman is back

Taylor Roman is back. That was some of the best news Jamie Trachsel and her Ole Miss softball program could have received over their off-season after reaching the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.

Roman was granted an extra-year of eligibility by the NCAA.

Though she started just 13 games a season ago, she earned the title of Ms. Clutch during the Rebels’ magical run to OKC. It was Roman’s go-ahead, three-run homer that propelled Ole Miss to its regional-clinching victory over Arizona. She showed up again when her two-run double against Arkansas powered the Rebels to a game-one, Super Regional victory over Arkansas.

“Huge,” said Trachsel when asked about her return. “She had a great fall and into January. It’s just her maturity and her leadership, knowing what it takes. She’s hungry, coming off some of her game-changing, season-extending hits that she had last year.

“She is just a dangerous bat with a game-changing swing. It’s her maturity and leadership form some of our new kids. Just being around that, especially because we graduated so many new kids. We were an older team last year and graduated so many players.”

Roman, a native of Texas, transferred to Ole Miss from Louisiana-Lafayette prior to the 2025 season.
